The best cookie of 1935

Ok. So they are just chocolate chip cookies but...they are still pretty good.

1/3 c. shortening
1/3 c. butter (I used butter because it rocks)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
6 oz chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350. Mix shortening, sugars and egg. Add vanilla. Stir dry ingredients and blend into shortening mixture until well-blended. Add chocolate chips. Drop tbsp-fulls on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool slightly.

UPDATE: try refrigerating the dough (or some of it) for a day or two. It makes a fantastic cookie.

You should also try freezing a log of dough for later. Works great!

hey do you use butter or margarine? We always used margarine and crisco. then I have used butter at times. Not sure if its that or the oven our my change in altitude but they have not been the same. Your dad does a great job with what used to be my specialty. Just made what was your moms specialty a few weeks ago. The coffee cake. Not sure if it was but as good as your moms but everyone loved it.
